Over the available time period it has slightly edged out the vanguard total bond index, it has taken on more credit risk and it did DROP in 2008 where the bond index rose.
FTBFX - Fidelity® Total Bond Fund FXNAX - Fidelity® US Bond Index. FXNAX is the better option. FTBFX at 0.45% is too expensive. I could also buy commission free ETFs for the bond portion, like AGG(0.05) or IUSB(0.06) on the Fidelity platform. Fidelity also has its own Total Bond ETF - FBND (0.36)
